Kenshi wasn't a bad father in the lore lol He left Takeda so the Red Dragon wouldn't kill him and so Takeda wouldn't go after them by himslef. Sometimes giving something up, even a child, is better than hurting that child by selfishly staying around.

Think about it everyone. If they stuck with Takeda being Kenshi's son, then he would be faarr from being born yet. The Kombat Kids were about 20 years later. I, too, don't really like it personally, but if we want him in MK1 then here's our wish.
Also since they changed Takeda's story to put him in MK1, then that means unlikely that Cassie and Jacqui would be in the game too. Kung Jin might since he's Kung Lao cousin (they might make him similar age to Kung Lao instead)

I just don’t understand why they decided to put the character relationships in a randomizer. The classic character relationships were great, why try to fix something that isn’t broken?
The original NRS timeline reset for MK9 was amazing. It played so well into the story with Raiden’s flashbacks and misunderstanding of the timeline message ultimately leading to his fallout and fight with Liu Kang. It setup the new age character building really well, with Johnny kind of reluctantly falling into the hero role against Shinnok and the training of the Kombat kids as the next gen protectors of earth.
You can even see how Johnny’s own immaturity bleeds into the relationships that they have as well unlike how they might have been training under Liu.
MK1 just feels all over the place and the decision to change the roster around really didn’t affect the story at all as advertised.

Takeda was easily the coolest combat kid when he debuted but that is literally only because he was virtually the perfect definition of a Mary Sue.
Son of Kenshi, trained by Scorpion, also hes super cool and young and handsome and oh also he inherited his Dad's telekinetic powers. It was just a bit much, he feels much more grounded now. Less generically "cool" and more uniquely badass.

I for 1 definitely prefer the MKX Background that was already established for Takeda 👍🏻.....this new background story for him now in MK1-2023..........is just ridiculous man....trying to make us think that this version of the Kharacter is Kenshi's cousin????......really bothers the heck outta me 😒😔 just doesn't feel right .........plus its disappointing that there r no "Pulse Blades" from the "Robin Variation" man......& his new moveset of combos & special moves is definitely fiyah🔥in the new trailer that recently came out.....bt doesn't quite look the same as it did for MKX

I’m kinda meh about this new background but it feels a little like a step backwards. Without Kenshi having mind reading powers, it does remove that connection he and Takeda had but it also makes Takeda more distant from Kenshi.
