I loved this series ever since 2033 (The very original, a classic and a shame if people aren't able to experience it), the mechanics were cool and unique, the enemies tough and formidable and the horror aspects incredible, before playing 2033 I saw the trailer and saw the ghosts and my kid brain thought "ooh like Casper?" Then I played the mission and became afraid of the dark for a while, glad I didn't live near any metros or underground rail lines because that mission with the ghosts shook me, the proper way to do horror, not a constant barrage of jumpscares or anything like that but a slow buildup and that feeling of something in the darkness infront of you and Khan's dialogue adding to the feeling of dread ("I don't think the word "who" is applicable here", or "no one travels these tunnels, not man nor beast... Even the rats are absent." And the bit where he uses a latin chant to dispel negative energy to get past ghosts blocking your path), I mean fucking hell the game weaponized something as simple as listening to the pipes in the tunnel, definitely an all time favorite game.
