Anyone who’s upset about this being in the game should be ashamed. It’s important to have things like this and not hide it and act like it never happens. Awareness that things like this actually happen is so important and I see it as a good thing that it’s in the game. It’s taken extremely seriously, and helps people understand and atleast give them some what of an idea of how terrifying it is.
Basically my point is, it’s not just violence for violence sake. It’s not replicating a school shooting to parody it. It’s replicating it to simulate and atleast give an idea of how scary such a thing can be, so we can spread awareness and possibly come up with ways to prevent it. (Now it’s something completely different if the player was the one harming the students, but in this case we’re the ones trying to save them which is completely different)

2 not so fun facts: If you take too long to clesr out the rooms, you can hear students being shot, and if a shooter sround the corner knows that you are there, they'll say stuff like, "Somebody help!/ Please, help!" and pretend to be a student. Fucking scary.
