King George III commented about Washington's plans to resign after the war, "If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world."
@freetamilnaduandsouthfromi2984 Says:
The most accurate part is that Washington had a British accent!

This make me want a new AAA game about the revolution, and I say rockstar should be the ones to make it happen.
@thicclegendfeep4050 Says:
You know you're a GOAT when a game specifically trying to paint you as a villainous tyrant only makes you look more badass.
@russellrichardson3088 Says:
This interaction was very similar to one that President Washington had with Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton was a federalist that desperately sought power similar to the British empire and it was men like Washington, Jefferson, and even Adams that kept America true to its promise, America is a country for people and not government

Psssssh Trump would be edging and telling him to keep talking.
@1101millie97 Says:
Thanks to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity, we effectively have an elective monarchy. I wonder what the Founding Fathers, including George Washington, would have thought of that…
@jaredscott9441 Says:
This is pretty incredible that a video game truly got the dialect and the tone quite accurately of something George Washington probably would’ve actually said if he was confronted like this.
@grimmlight4541 Says:
He would be face palming hard and in hysteria considering the tyrants in charge now.
@jakeadnams Says:
Politicians these days should take these words to heart
@Thenathang Says:
At the end of this scene, George looks confused like the person was never there. Is the point of this scene that George hallucinated that person being there?
@sidegrabsheriff Says:
should have gave us a dlc where we play as him
@jonathangardner6296 Says:
He had the power of Julius Caesar and turned it away. Truly a one of one.

Is it just me, or does it seem like George Washington is talking to the devil in this scene? Because if so, then the game devs did a pretty accurate job at portraying the devil’s act of deception!

For those curious, Washington's reply is taken almost verbatim from a letter he wrote IRL to another person suggesting this idea. https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Washington/99-01-02-08501
@ElyssiaMartin374 Says:
Washington didn't even want to be president the founding fathers had to make him take it.
@adriantepesut Says:
Liberal tripe. I love assassins creed but we need more games like rogue “People’s” revolutions never end up actually better for serfs or modern wagies The more openly violent the means by which power is assumed and maintained, the more free people ironically are from strife and suffering. Our superior standards of living are due to technology and science, not the modern aberrations stemming from the enlightenment

The one time George was based
@aaronnataren4861 Says:
George Washington was a man with great flaws, but the thing that made him exceptionally great was that he was fully aware of them and fought every day to stand back up if he stumbled. Learning from his mistakes so that he would not commit greater ones. Truly, the embodiment of our vision as a great empire. Quote by a citizen.

In a nutshell GW said: You speak of Liberal Monarchy, un-equality. All men are created equal, no kings or queens, watch your venomous tongue or it might be cut out 😶
@RachDarastrix2 Says:
I find it odd that the people who made this game actually know the foundation of the USA was a republic not a democracy.
@DanielKi199 Says:
Washington was called the "American Cincinnatus" for a reason (also part of the reason why Cincinnati is named as such today, after the Cincinnatus Society IIRC). He didn't want to lead the United States. After the war, he wanted to return to his plantation and live out his days in retirement. Yet, he humbly accepted the offer of running for president after refusing it multiple times, as the Founders believed he was the sole unifying figure that the entire nation could rally around (there were others like Jefferson, Adams, and Hancock that were popular, but all of them were certainly more divided into political/regional lines). And as president, he could've done anything. The Constitution was written and ratified, sure, but the POWER of the presidency was certainly in question. At the end of the day, the Constitution is something that only works if the nation agrees that it works. He could've radically shaped the presidency to be much different, a dictatorial one more akin to a monarch rather than a public servant. But he limited himself and established the modern etiquette and expectations of the president. He wasn't perfect by any means; he frequently clashed with members of Congress, especially over the Jay's Treaty. Nor was he completely beloved (the public burned effigies of Washington on a few occasions). But he was principled, humble, and, more importantly, detached from the corruption that normally comes with power. We can only see the power creep that came after he left office. Heck, even Jefferson, a self-proclaimed "small government" man, greatly expanded the powers of the presidency far beyond what even Washington established. So much to the point where Washington's own decision to limit himself to two terms became defacto law until FDR. The Cabinet still exists today (this was created by Washington and is not ordained in the Constitution specifically). He governed with a firm hand, but a detached one. Some modern interpretations today state that Washington wasn't as humble as he may have acted in public. I can't say with confidence if that is true, but I do imagine there is a kernel of truth to those assumptions. Regardless, his actions speak for him, and they show a man who was willing to step down peacefully and placed limits on himself for the good of the nation (so that one man wouldn't rule for decades on end). We should look back to his dedication and service to his country, especially during volatile times like now. No man is above the law. The United States fought for the right of the people to govern their own nation. The president is no monarch; he is a public servant. At least, he should be like one.
