Maybe the game is telling you to find a boss there with an armor piece. To me it seems like you are too unstructured in your approach. Get of the cloud and walk the area and find the shrine, I guess there are 5 with animal names and get the armor pieces. Has fought a few major bosses that give him WUKONG!!! armor, the literal namesake of the game. That would suggest that maybe you gotta fight some more bosses to get the full armor. Meanwhile he runs away from the giant grasshopper that anybody with a brain would realize might just maybe give you another piece of armor.
