So, it detects certain things you say - "Do you see me?", "Can you hear me" and similar stuff. This, along with the motion of "The louder you are the scarier the game" is a fantastic concept. However, I think it's been executed poorly. It's, in my opinion, a copy of "Silent breath", where you're supposed to be silent throughout the game and it's jumpscares. Which is a great concept - as we see it works amazingly in Silent breath. However, I do think it's also a lot of missed potential for dialogue, which is something not really present in gaming in general, let alone horror gaming. The fact you can tell Susan "Come here" and she responds with "I'm not your toy" is just a sneak peek into all the dialogue that could be produced. However, just some of the things I noticed in my playthrough that I felt were missing: Voice recognition does not recognize "Im sorry". Why? If she says "Im not your toy", let me apologise dang it! Also, if you yell during the shootout, and Susan is around, she will try and scare you, though from my testing she can't kill you while you're fighting the sheriff. Given how Holton killed Susan, would it not make sense for a hidden ending where you yell "Susan, help me!" or "Susan, help me kill the sheriff" and she.. you know, *actually helps*? In stead of that, we got a lame ending where you hide in a closet until she knocks. The idea that silent breath had and this game tries to mimic - having an open mic with the one clear goal - Be silent - is okay, and is hinted at by Susan hushing you with her finger and also whispering "Hush hush". But if you have voice recognition and invest so many resources into it, just to show the player they should shut up..? Why even have voice recognition in the first place? Why say "You can now communicate with the supernatural entity"? What's the point if the entire idea is for you NOT to communicate?
