Like very little of what we were doing up to that point really matters in the final chapter. But as someone who is very enamoured with alternate timelines and selves, the various combos plus the ability to choose who is the final hero of the story are so awesome it probably doesn't matter. Not to mention, while not shown in this video, there's an extra slot in the menu, likely for DLC characters. A: He was set up as the main character after Liu Kang died in Deadly Alliance, but died fighting them. B: Shaolin Monks vs Deadly Alliance is a cool idea. C: Lao finally gets the glory he deserves as Liu's rival and best friend. All good stuff.
